There’s nothing to equal polypropylene, is there? That’s ok – but in a world that is more than ever aware that resources are finite, it’s time for a re-think. Time to see if there isnʼt a choice. After all – what is polypropylene? In simple terms itʼs thermoplastic polymer made by the chemical industry. Not all polymers are synthetic.

What about naturally occurring polymers?

What about one of the most common
polymers in existence – cellulose? And what’s cellulose if it isnʼt an organic compound thatʼs the primary component of all green plants. Let’s take a look at cellulose. Obviously, not all plant matter can be thought of as a sustainable resource, but there is some that is. Itʼs this thatʼs worth a closer look. One of these is wood fibre.

Wood Fibre – a sustainable resource.

Grown in well managed forests, wood fibre is a widely available source of cellulose. Itʼs easily recognised that such forests are not only managed to ensure long term sustainability but also have a ʻdouble positiveʼ effect on carbon emissions. In addition to actively improving the quality of the air by removing carbon dioxide and replacing it with oxygen, they also provide a raw material at the end of their growth period that has a vastly lower carbon-footprint than other petro-chemical derived alternatives.
